Left side shows polylobated nuclei of so-called "flower cells" in peripheral blood. Right side shows ulceration of skin on heel of patient from Caribbean region. ATL is associated with Human T-cell Leukemia Virus type 1 (HTLV-1). It was first described in Japanese patients but later was found to be also endemic in the Caribbean region.
