CNL is diagnosed on the basis of the expansion of neutrophils in both blood and bone marrow (segmented neutrophils and band forms, >80% of white cells) and is considered a myeloproliferative neoplasm, according to WHO diagnostic criteria.Activating mutations in the gene encoding the receptor for colony-stimulating factor 3 (CSF3R) has been found in patients with CNL.
