74 female was seen because of shortness of breath. She had undergone a mastectomy several months earlier for adenocarcinoma of the breast. A pleural effusion was noted and she underwent a thoracentesis. The cell count of the fluid included 43 RBCs/uL and 404 nucleated cells/uL. A low power view of the cytospin preparation is shown. Multiple groups of cells are noted and a moderate amount of cytoplasm in individual cells is evident.
