Marrow promyelocytes with Auer rods; often called called "Faggot" cells, a term derived from an analogy to bundles of sticks.

 

t(15;17) involving PML on chromosome 15 and RARA on chromosome 17. Rare cases may lack the classic translocation on routine cytogenetics due to cryptic submicroscopic insertion of RARA into the PML gene (as was seen in this case).
