Promonocytes morphologically looks large cells with irregular ,delicately folded nuclei with nuclear indendation fine chromatin, small indistinct nucleoli, and finely granulated cytoplasm.

These are considered to be monoblast equivalents considered for the diagnosis of acute monocytic, or acute myelomonocytic- leukemia and in subclassifying chronic myelomonocytic leukemia.
