This image shows the peripheral blood smear of a 29-year-old female patient admitted to the hospital for appendicitis surgery. Following the receipt of her laboratory test results, which indicated thrombocytosis and elevated levels of bilirubin and lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), schistocytosis was suspected. Her peripheral blood smear was examined, revealing a notable presence of red blood cells (RBCs) with elliptocyte morphology. Subsequent review of the patient's medical history revealed the presence of hereditary elliptocytosis.
