The blood film of a 3-day-old neonate with trisomy 21 (Down’s syndrome) and an exon 2 mutation in the GATA1 gene showing blasts, nucleated red cells, polychromasia and a giant platelet (May-Grünwald-Giemsa stain). The transient abnormal myelopoiesis resolved spontaneously without chemotherapy.
