MDS with isolated del(5q) chromosome abnormality. Peripheral blood smear (Wright-Giemsa stain). The peripheral blood smear was most remarkable for showing red blood cell anisocytosis with a population of macro-ovalocytes. Platelets are at the upper limits of normal, and are morphologically normal. There are no abnormalities in the neutrophils in the blood smear.
