Patient is a 6-year-old child with leishmaniasis who presented with fever and mild splenomegaly. . Bone marrow aspirate showing a macrophage with numerous amastigotes. Leishmaniasis preferentially infects reticuloendothelial cells. Amastigotes measure between 2-5 µm and can be round or oval in shape with a large nucleus. Wright-Giemsa stain, original magnification 100× (oil).
