The peripheral blood shows borderline anemia, moderate thrombocytopenia, and circulating blasts (9% blasts by differential count). The blasts have round to slightly irregular nuclear contours, basophilic cytoplasm, and open chromatin. A subset of the blasts have cytoplasmic blebs, and a subset have granules.
