Granulocytic precursors next to trabecular bone normal BMBx

Intermediate-power image of normal bone marrow.  Granulocytic precursors normally are found adjacent to trabecular bone in a layer up to a few cells thick, while mature neutrophils are located away from the bone.  In some conditions, for example, in myelodysplastic syndromes, one can see “abnormal localization of immature precursors” with precursor cells present away from their normal paratrabecular and perivascular niche.
