Reed-Sternberg cells such as those pictured in this lymph node from a patient with nodular sclerosis Hodgkin lymphoma cells have bilobed nuclei with prominent eosinophilic nuclei. Their ample cytoplasm tends to retract during formalin fixation so that they are surrounded by empty space, which is why they are also known as “lacunar cells”.
