Here we present 68 year old Male patient of pancytopenia. PB shows- TLC- 990/cumm, 13% blasts and platelet- 50000/cumm. BMA is consistent with acute leukemia, 62% blasts (MPO negative). On IPT AML diagnosis is confirmed. Cytogenetic analysis of twenty metaphases from unstimulated BMA culture shows trisomy 8 as sole abnormality in thirteen metaphases. Karyotype as per ISCN is- 47,XY,+8[13]/46,XY[7].

Gain of chromosome 8 as trisomy is common abnormality in myeloid neoplasms. It can be secondary abnormality to recurrent genetic translocations. Trisomy 8 is highlighted with arrow in metaphase cell in left side of image and in circle, in the karyotype.
