“Cabot rings” (inclusion within left-of-center reticulocyte) refer to remnants of the mitotic spindle within reticulocytes that form delicate, ring-like or figure-of-eight structures.

First described in 1903 by physician Richard Clarke Cabot (1868-1939), the red-/violet-staining rings have been described in an array of hematologic conditions, including megaloblastic anemia, lead poisoning, and myelodysplastic syndromes.

A neutrophil can be observed to the right-of-center.
