The image presents a plasma cell(black arrow) and a Mott cell (gray arrow) in an HIV positive female patient.
Plasmocytes are immunoglobulin secreting cells that derives from mature B lymphocytes. Mott cells are plasmocytes with multiple immunoglobulin inclusions (Russell bodies), giving them the classic “bunch of grapes” aspect. These cells can be found in plasma cell dyscrasias and reactive plasmacytosis, such as chronic inflammatory conditions or infections.
