The peripheral blood ( may grunwald giemsa stain) of a 24 years old women  shows circulating atypical cells with cytoplasmic projections (hairy cells).

the hairy cells have rounded or oval nucleus , with chromatin finer than that of a lymphocyte, without obvious nucleolus.

Weakly basophilic cytoplasm (gray-blue), with outer membrane bristling with fine extensions (hairy appearance) and absence of granulations .
