The blood film of a patient with Plasmodium falciparum infection showing numerous intracellular ring form parasites, with a 10% parasitemia. Infected erythrocytes were not enlarged. Some erythrocytes were infected with multiple parasites. There were ring forms with double chromatin dots giving the classic headphone appearance.
