Peripheral blood smear from a patient with COVID-19 showing red cell with cytoplasmic projection, resembling pincer-like cell, also known as mushroom- shaped red blood cell (arrow).  It is usually associated with erythrocyte disorders, such as congenital dyserthropoietic anemias, hereditary spherocytosis associated with Banda-3 protein deficiency, disseminated intravascular coagulation, microangiopathic hemolytic anemia, erythroleukemia and Sars-CoV-2 infection (Wright-Giemsa stain).
