Peripheral blood showing reactive lymphocytes in a case of infectious mononucleosis. These lymphocytes are T-cells and not the EBV-infected B-cells.

EBV infected B-cells are not seen circulating in the peripheral blood smear but are largely confined to lymphoreticular tissue.
