This peripheral blood smear shows red and white blood cells. This shows neutrophils (labeled in yellow) characterized by the multiple lobes; the cells are tasked with the function of finding and destroying bacteria/bacterial toxins in the bloodstream. The green arrow points to a basophil that protects the body from intruders like bacteria and parasites. The purple arrow identifies a monocyte that helps repair the body and is part of the monocyte/macrophage family.
