Nucleated red blood cells (NRBC) are immature red blood cells. The presence of circulating NRBCs in the peripheral blood of adults is abnormal. Circulating NRBCs may be seen in patients with sickle cell anemia, autoimmune hemolytic anemia, splenic dysfunction, myeloproliferative neoplasms, metastatic carcinoma, and other causes.
