Döhle bodies can appear as a pale blue-gray, round or oval inclusion in the neutrophil cytoplasm, usually located in the perinuclear area or close to the cell membrane. They are composed of agglutinated ribosomes and can be detected in patients with sepsis, and burns as a response to severe stress or inflammation. May-Hegglin anomaly can also be identified by Döhle-like granulocytic inclusions and large thrombocytes.
