Apoptotic lymphocytes on peripheral blood. These are from a patient diagnosed with hairy cell leukemia and treated with 2-chlorodeoxyadenosine (cladribine, 2CDA).  After 2 weeks of the treatment initiation, apoptotic lymphocytes were detected on the blood film. Note the nuclear shrinkage, nuclear condensation, and fragmentation. May-Grünwald Giemsa stain.
