This image shows peripheral blood smear of a patient diagnosed with β-thalassemia major. Poikilocytosis can be seen. This term is referred to variously-shaped red blood cells (RBCs). The RBC distribution width (RDW) is also elevated which is indicating the variation in RBCs' size.
