Acute erythroid leukemia

Bone marrow smear of a patient with acute erythroid leukemia showed proerythroblasts (>30%) with deeply basophilic cytoplasm and cytoplasmic blebbing. Molecular karyotyping showed complex genome. NGS identified pathogenic TP53 variant. Proerythroblasts have been shown to play an important role in treatment resistance and poor prognosis in AML patients.
