An erythroblastic island, consisting of a central macrophage, the "nurse cell", surrounded by basophilic and polychromatic erythroblasts. In this bone marrow microenviroment, erythorid precursors receive regulatory stimulus for development, iron for hemoglin production and are subject to nuclear extrusion.
