H&E sections show a lymph node with effacement of architecture by an atypical lymphohistiocytic infiltrate. Medium to large atypical cells with irregular nuclei can be identified on close examination. However, the atypical cells are partially obscured by the background reactive histiocytes and lymphocytes. Rare ‘hallmark cells’ with reniform nuclei are also present.
