Auer rods are large, crystalline cytoplasmic inclusion bodies seen in myeloid blast cells during Acute Myeloid Leukemia. Auer rods are azurophillic, composed of fused lysosomes and rich in lysosomal enzymes. They can resemble needles and are strongly positive for myeloperoxidase.
