Peripheral blood smear stained with Field’s stain demonstrating an erythrocyte infected with Plasmodium vivax schizont. The infected red blood cell is enlarged and contains numerous merozoites with distinct chromatin and cytoplasmic staining. Surrounding erythrocytes show normal morphology. Image captured under oil immersion using a 100× objective. These findings are characteristic of the schizont stage of Plasmodium vivax.
