Peripheral blood smear stained with Field stain demonstrating crescent-shaped gametocytes of Plasmodium falciparum. The gametocytes exhibit characteristic elongated, banana-shaped morphology with dense chromatin and pigment. The infected erythrocytes are not enlarged. These morphological features are diagnostic of Plasmodium falciparum infection. Image captured at 100× oil immersion magnification.
