The functional unit of erythropoiesis- Nurse cells- are specialized macrophages that assist in erythrocyte development by supplying iron, nutrients, and growth factors to maturing."suckling"erythroblasts & phagocytose extruded nuclei. They resemble "rosette" structures where erythroblast precursors cluster around a central macrophage. These cells are common in regenerating marrow, particularly in children and young adults, acting as key iron-supplying "nurses"
