Peripheral blood smear (Leishman stain, ×1000 oil immersion) from a 45-year-old female presenting with bleeding per vaginum, showing marked microcytosis and hypochromia with prominent anisopoikilocytosis. Numerous elliptocytes/pencil cells are seen, consistent with iron deficiency anemia secondary to chronic blood loss.
