Bone marrow aspirate (x40 magnification - Wright-Giemsa stain). Erythropoiesis is left shifted with prominent cytoplasmic vacuolation of proerythroblasts and dyserythropoiesis of late erythroblasts. Myelopoieis is reduced and left-shifted with prominent cytoplasmic vacuolation of promyelocytes and myelocytes.
