The blood film (Giemsa stain, x100 objective) of a patient with East African sleeping sickness caused by Trypanosoma brucei rhodesiense showed extracellular slender trypomastigotes (one of them marked with an arrow) with free flagellum, prominent undulating membrane, a central nucleus and a discrete kinetoplast at the posterior pole.
