- Peripheral blood smear showing fragmented red blood cells.
- Helmet cells/crescent shaped rbcs having sharp angular margins with pointed ends seen in hemolytic conditions like microangiopathic hemolytic Anemia, Thrombotic thromcytopenic purpura, hemolytic uremic syndrome, disseminated intravascular coagulation and in mechanical hemolysis resulting in red cell fragmentation.
- Occasional spherocytes and polychromatophilic erythrocytes are also present.
