The three images depicted shows irregularly contracted cells, triangular cells and numerous blister cells as well as a rare sickle cell in a patient with sicke cell disease who recently developed a cerebrovascular accident. At this time, she had been transfused and her HbS levels were 56%.

Blisters cells have been reported in patients with sickle cell disease who developed pulmonary emboli and there was speculation if blisters cells might be a surrogate for increased thrombotic risk in SS patients.
