Bare nuclei of megakaryocytes are seen more often in the bone marrow when there is accelerated platelet production, as in thrombocytopenic purpura of
immune or microangiopathic origin. They can also be observed in peripheral blood films, particularly when there is myelofibrosis and extramedullary
hematopoiesis.
