Wright-Giemsa, 60x.  Peripheral blood smear with lymphocytosis.  Lymphocytes are intermediate in size with round nuclei, clumped chromatin, and moderate amounts of basophilic cytoplasm.  Interestingly, several of the lymphocytes contain fine, eosinophilic crystalling Auer-rod like structures rods.  Concurrent flow cytometry showed a monoclonal B-cell population.

 

These structures are consistent with immunoglobulin and such eosinophilic accumulations of immunoglobulin may be seen frequently in low-grade B-cell lymphomas, frequently lymphoplasmacytic lymphoma
